Your Indian holiday remains incomplete without a visit to the much-coveted land of Jammu and Kashmir. This state is aptly considered as the paradise of India and has some breath-taking natural beauty for you. You should start with the summer capital of the state, Srinagar, which is 1730 meters above sea level. This beautiful place is tucked in the lap of the Karakoram, Zanskar, and Pir Panjal ranges of mountains. The gorgeous Jhelum River passes through this divine place. You will be truly enthralled by numerous lakes (in which you can go boating) and the majestic mountain ranges around.

Srinagar is a unique combination of natural as well as man made beauty. The first is the Dal Lake with its beautiful islands, Char Chinar, covered with four willows. The Mihrbharies sell beautiful flowers, fruits, and nuts grown in the state from the shikaras (elongated gondolas) on these scenically flawless islands. The luxurious houseboats on this water body give you a unique experience. From the Dal Lake you should visit the Nishat Bagh (a garden), built by Emperor Jahangir’s brother-in-law Asaf Khan. It has a terraced structure with streams of water flowing down the middle.

The Shalimar Bagh, built by Jehangir’s wife Nur Jahan is another terraced garden, with waterways running through it. The pavilions on the topmost terrace are supported by awesome pillars made of black marble. You should visit the Chashmashahi also known as the Royal Spring, the Pari Mahal, the Fairy Palace, the Harwen Garden, the Hari Parbat also known as Koh-e-Maraan, the Shankaracharya Temple, the Jamam Masjid, Rozahbal mosque, Pattar Masjid, Hazratbal Shrine, Nazim Bagh, the tomb of Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani and Khanqah-e-Moula.

There are many flights from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir. You can ask your travel agent to book a cheap ticket for you on a cheap flight. There are many good hotels in Srinagar where you can book your stay.
