While you are still around Dalhousie, do not forget to visit Khajjiar, another beautiful hill resort. I feel that calling it the ‘Switzerland of India’ is not a hyperbole at all. This paradise on earth with its plush surroundings, lakes and greenery is located at an altitude of 1960 m. I am sure you will want to dwell eternally in this place of divine grace. The horizon comprising of the snow line above the woods is a rare sight. This gorgeous land is abounded with a lake in the center and a number of streams.

Khajjiar, located in Himachal Pradesh, experienced varied rulerships. It served as the capital of the Rajputs of Chamba, it was ruled by the Moguls and Sikhs and finally by the British before the Indian Independence.

The special attractions of Khajjiar are its Lake, the Khajjinag Temple and the Nine Hole Golf course. The Lake at Khajjiar enhances the beauty of this celestial place. Walking on the soft, weeded soil around the lake can be quite an experience. The Khajinag temple, devoted to the Devi (the female goddess of power, peace and prosperity) is an ancient treasure of the local inhabitants. It has a dome and a spire made of gold and hence it is also called Golden Devi Temple. If you want to recreate yourself, you can always indulge in a game of Golf in the Nine Hole Golf Course.

The best time to visit Khajjiar is in the Indian summer, from April to June. Along with the other hill resorts in the region, a visit to Khajjiar completes your tour of the hill resorts of Himachal Pradesh. You can book discount travel packages from Delhi (by road), from Pathankot(by rail), and from Kangra(by air). You can take a discount airline ticket from Gaggal airport in Kangra.
