After some adventure with wildlife for a change, I think you will want to visit another monument of historic significance, called the Deeg Fort, at the 18th century Jat capital Deeg in Rajasthan. This fort was built by Raja Badan Singh in 1725. It is located in a military strategic point and was built in 1730. You can enter the fort through its northern gate by crossing a bridge.

The majestic towers of this fort impart certain arrogance to this protective monument that has a gateway with spikes, originally set to hurt trespassing elephants. There are a dozen of these towers and the biggest and the most regal among them is Lakha Burj in the north-western corner. The military regiment used to fight their enemies by firing through cannons from the top of the towers. You can get to see the cannon of Lakha Burj even today.

Another attraction of the Deeg Fort is the Suraj Mal Haveli (Palace of Maharaja Suraj Mal who was the son of Raja Badan Singh). It is an epitome of architectural excellence. The Bengali architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya from Jaipur has designed its typically Bengali-styled curved dome which resembles the curved bamboo roofs of a hut in a typical Bengal village. A lot of other palaces of Deeg also sport the Bengali-styled domes.

The best time for a travel deal to visit this place is from October to March. You can visit this place either by airways, railways, or roadways. Traveling by airways is not all that advisable because the only airport that is nearest to this place is that of Agra which is not very operational. You can take flights from Delhi to Agra. There are lots of domestic Airlines, like Air Deccan, Indian Airlines, and Jet Airways, which offer reasonable airfare to fly you to Agra. Form Agra, you have to take a train to Bharatpur. The Golden Temple Mail from Mumbai and Paschim Express from Delhi are among the trains that go to Bharatpur. You can of course take buses also from Bharatpur to Deeg.

After you reach Deeg you have to think about your lodging place. Deeg does not have good hotels. You have to stay in Bharatpur in which there are hotels of different categories namely Heritage Hotels, First Class Hotels, and Budget Hotels. Among them, the ones offered by Rajasthan tourism department is the best with reasonable lodging facilities.

After enjoying the historical and wildlife splendor of India, a trip to Mathura will reveal the rich cultural and religious treasure houses of India.
